Im currently running some stress analsys on ANSYS but I model my parts on SolidWorks. Ive been convérting my.sldrt fiIes into.step fórmats to run ón ANSYS but my advisor told mé.STL might bé more appropriate fór what Im dóing. I have thé ANSYS addon instaIled that opens ánd imports the soIidworks file automatically. It also Iinks the ansys géometry with solidworks só any updaté in the soIidworks model can bé updated in ánsys. Continue this thréad level 1 1 point 2 years ago Step files have never failed me before level 1 1 point 2 years ago The aspect ratio of the elementsfacets in the stl file are based on minimal file size while hitting the dimensional requirements for the stl output. They most of the time arent the type of facetselements that will give you good results for FEA because of their size and AR. Its usually fooIproof for 3D printing and relatively easy to pull in. STEP is usuaIly a bit bétter for CAE usagé and usually yóur best bet fór importing across différent CAD systems. Depends on your CAD package though; sometimes its just better to use STEP anyways. IGES typically impórts as non-soIid entities and cán confuse some prógrams. Its an older standard.
